mid 80’s and on
My father opened the store OMG at 555 Broadway when I was just a little girl, so I spent a lot of my weekend time growing up visiting SoHo and walking around the shops and going to cafes with my mom and brother. I know in the early days before the tourists arrived, his store catered to locals, but as the area and the business grew, things changed. I have so many memories of being shocked when certain stores opened in the area, and of walking around and admiring the people and places. I feel like I came of age in SoHo and the area, and it will always have a special place in my heart. Finding your site has been a pleasure.

I wish I was a SoHo old-timer!
This isn’t a specific memory, but I remember thinking that Canal St was soooo far south, and as the years passed, how the borders seemed to expand and suddenly, we were going even below Canal. One memory I love is eating my first Ceasar salad at Elephant Castle. I believe that’s what it was called. I also remember walking around with my mom and brother as kids, and how it was totally fine for her to stay behind looking at stuff, and for my brother and I to just continue down the street into the next shops and she would catch up with us. Now you could never let your kids do that.
