If you’re a SoHo old-timer, what do you miss most about SoHo in the early days?
the free-wheeling crowds inhabiting west broadway and attending experimental performances at the Kitchen when it was located in SOHO.
What do you miss least about SoHo in the early days?
Having only a few restaurants and not being able to buy The New York Times next day edition
If you used to live in SoHo but no longer live here, why did you leave?
never lived in SOHO.
What is your most vivid SoHo memory?
Mingling with the crowds roaming west broadway and associating with the younger artist living and working in SOHO.
Also the smell of fresh baked bread coming from a bakery on Spring street at 2 AM before heading home.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
SOHO was a magical time from 1970-1975. It ended when when New York magazine did a spread on SOHO i June,1975. Then the uptown hordes invaded SOHO the following weekend.
When SOHO had light manufacturing businesses, SOHO was empty at night after the workers finished their day. The West Village in the 1960’s was crowded,parking was difficult. Parking was easier in SOHO until 1975
