Where did you live/work/visit in SoHo?
I started an importing company supllying food to restuarants in 1981. Raoul’s became one of m favorites, and I moved into a small warehouse on Thompson in 1990 to continued that work.
What was your occupation when you lived/worked in SoHo?
I moved our food warehouse to Wooster in 1992, and opened to the public in the mornings, naming the new venture Gourmet Garage.
If you’re a SoHo old-timer, what do you miss most about SoHo in the early days?
I’m not a real old-timer, but I loved the vibe pre-glamour days.
What do you miss least about SoHo in the early days?
The early days where wonderful.
If you used to live in SoHo but no longer live here, why did you leave?
I sold our company in 2019, new owners closed our Soho store on 2024
What is your most vivid SoHo memory?
Probably walking down Mercer and seeing crowds of people sitting on the stoops in the afternoon eating our prepared foods. Calling Jim Lahey at Sullivan Street to order another load of 80 dozen hot loaves for the afternoon.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
I miss the smiling faces of our cashiers, and all of our daily customers who would smile back at us.
