Where did you live/work/visit in SoHo?
| I worked at the Broome Street Bar when it opened. Before that there were only a few bars and restaurants. There was Fanelli’s of course, and Mike Fanelli was still there every night. The Spring Street Bar was kinda snobby and pretentious. I only remember two restaurants – Food on Prince Street by Mercer and OG’s on W Bway between Prince and Spring. Food was fairly successful. Its original owner sold it to a waitress named Ruby for $1. Not sure how Ruby did with it. OG’s was owned by its French chef and had an interesting menu that varied a lot. I left NYC in 1976 and have only been back to Soho once or twice around 2000. |
